U.S. Military Airman Returns Home Early To Surprise His Son On The Football Field

Athletes know there's nothing like seeing your loved ones in the stands at a big game.

For our brave military heroes, it's often missing things like this that can make being away from home so difficult. When U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Martel knew he'd be returning early from deployment in Afghanistan to his home at Spangdahlem Airbase in Germany, he didn't want to just make his teenage son Justin's football game… He wanted to give to give him the surprise of a lifetime!

We've seen lots of amazing videos of U.S. servicemen and women surprising their families and each one feels more creative than the last. There's something really special about these reunions on the field, like when this father surprised his son during a professional lacrosse game earlier this year. When the athletes are in the zone, seeing their loved one on the field is pretty much the last thing they're likely to see coming.

In the following video, Sgt. Martel, who is originally from Texas, trades in his Air Force uniform for one of his son’s opposing teammates’ uniforms. When his son came in for a seemingly normal team pep talk, Sgt. Martel takes off his helmet and completely tackles his son. What a great moment for such a great dad!

Did this surprise put a smile on your face? Please SHARE this video to say thank you to Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Martel for his service to our country!
