Australian Shepherd Leads Searchers To Missing 2-Year-Old Boy

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: Rich and Carmen Myrick’s 2-year-old son, Peyton, was playing outside his grandfather’s house with the family dog. The next minute, he disappeared.

The only solace they had? The dog, a black and white Australian shepherd named Ashepoo, was missing too.

“In the back of my mind, you knew the dog was gonna be with him,” Rich said. Carmen didn’t think things would end well, but fortunately, hundreds of men and women came to help them find Peyton.

After five hours of searching, Ashepoo appeared near a barn half a mile from the grandfather’s house. Ashepoo barked loudly then sprinted off, leading the searchers to Peyton. He was curled up in a ball, fast asleep on the ground.

It comes as no surprise to me that a dog saved a small child. Just recently, a rescue dog saved an infant by alerting her parents to her seizure in the middle of the night.

“All of a sudden I heard, ‘they’ve got him, they’ve got him!'” Rich recalls. “I believe the dog was his guardian angel in fur.”

“I think he felt that was his job, to protect him and stay with him,” Carmen says. The couple plan on buying Ashepoo the biggest steak they can find.
