Back in 1993, Valerie Scobel was flipping through her local newspaper when she suddenly came across an article that mentioned how there were so many cats in need of foster homes and volunteers to keep them from being put down.
While Scobel didn't have all the experience and money necessary to be a huge help, she decided she was going to do her best anyways. She began to volunteer her time, resources, and even her home in order to foster these cats until they could find a forever home. As the years passed, she began to become incredibly good at what she was doing, and figured out ways to clean, feed, and keep large groups of cats healthy.
Scobel is one of the most driven people we've ever seen. Just about anyone else would eventually lose control of the situation, with so many cats their houses would eventually become dilapidated and overrun with felines. But with some volunteers and donations to her nonprofit, the Pet Connection adoption and rescue center, she and her team are able to take good care of over 200 cats. "Some of them will live out their lives here… We will not euthanize an animal so that we can take in another one," she said in regards to putting any of the animals down.
Though she loves to play with her cat friends, her ultimate goal is to get those cats into their own forever homes with a family who can love and focus on just that one cat. "Because it shows me that these animals were offered a second chance, and if somebody hadn't stepped in they may not have gotten that chance."
