How To Skin A Watermelon For The Coolest Party Trick Ever

Thanks to this video, you're about to be the coolest guest at this year's Labor Day party.

Mark Rober, former NASA engineer and the man behind the viral watermelon smoothie, is back with a brand new edible party trick that involves "skinning" a watermelon — and it's seriously awesome. In the video below, Mark takes you through the simple steps.

While this works for any sized watermelon, the key is to bring home two watermelons of similar size and shape. In one watermelon, make shallow cuts until there's no more green, then smaller cuts to get rid of the white layer. Basically, you want to make slashes until you see only the red insides. Then, use new dish-scrubbing pads as watermelon sandpaper to buff and shine the watermelon. After a few minutes, it should be nice and smooth.

Cut the second watermelon in half, then scoop out the inside and place it to the side (you can eat that later). Carve out both halves, then place the first watermelon inside. In less than 20 minutes, you have a deliciously impressive party trick ready to pull out of your hat. And since the rind has already been removed, the clean-up is a synch… so you can get back to the party and enjoy the limelight:)
