In 2007, Jeff Kettle, a Green Beret, was killed in combat in Afghanistan, leaving behind his wife and 15-month-old son.
His son Logan Kettle, now age 9, is slowly learning more about his dad's sacrifice and all he did for his country. But one thing Logan wishes he had is his dad's uniform jacket, which mysteriously disappeared after his death. After learning about this request, his uncle Clay Kettle set out to find the jacket. When he couldn't, he decided he had to do something bigger.
"It just kind of hit me in the gut," said Clay, a combat veteran. "I always wore my dad's Air Force jacket."
Clay recreated that jacket for his nephew, using his brother's service record and a picture of the uniform. Finally, last week, Clay presented the jacket to Logan. For Clay, this project was to help Logan to always remember his dad's sacrifice.
"I've got something," Clay told his nephew.
When Logan saw the jacket, he asked: "Can I put this on?" As he stood in the family's home, the 9-year-old boy began to cry as he proudly wore the replica jacket.
"It's been really tough," Logan said. "I don't know what it's like to have a dad. Everyone else in my class has a dad. Their dads are so great and I bet mine was greater."
"If he wasn't in this world, we wouldn't be standing here today," Logan said.
"Him, and men like him," his uncle added.
