A ceiling may not be the first thing you notice when you walk into a room, but its style certainly has an impact.
Exposed beams can give a room a more rustic vibe; a domed ceiling can make a room feel grand and timeless; and windowed ceilings, like the one in this gorgeous tiny house, makes a snug space feel airy and large.
Textured ceilings — known as "popcorn" or even "cottage cheese" ceilings — were all the rage in the 1970s and ’80s, but not so much anymore. Yet updating them can be very pricy, and a total pain. You can hire a costly contractor who will remove it for you, or you can get rid of it yourself with a spray bottle, wide scraper, and plenty of plastic. But this DIY option is timely and creates a huge mess.
But now, thanks to Imgur user, makesomething, there's a way to revamp a popcorn ceiling quickly, neatly, and for a fraction of the price a professional would charge you.

Before this homeowner began his project, his boring popcorn ceiling was nothing to look at. “We wanted to do something with it, but didn't want to spend too much money,” he wrote.
So they went to their local Lowes and bought thin planks that cost about $9 per pack of six. He nailed them into the ceiling with two-inch brad nails.
“The planks fit together as they have v shaped grooves,” he wrote.
Once all the wood was nailed into the ceiling, he decided to do some molding.
He also added some molding around the vent, which was a little trickier.
It took him two days to complete the project and it only cost him $250.
“We had extra planks left over, so we decided to cover the wall next to the fireplace,” he wrote. “It's an empty wall that we always felt like needed something.”
The end result? Everyone in the household loves it. Even the dog who “would walk in every once in a while to check on the progress,” he wrote.
