Cassandra Bankson Hides Her Skin Every Day — Here’s How She Does It

We show you a lot of really important videos here at Little Things, but for me, there is one beauty tutorial that has always held a special resonance.

I was around 10 years old when I first started getting pimples. By the time I was 12, my zits had developed into a full-blown case of cystic acne. I remember touching my face, and not being able to find a single patch of clear skin.

I used to cake my face in makeup, trying to hide the bumps and blotches from my fellow 7th graders, who all seemed to be gifted with perfectly clear skin. Eventually, I got pretty good at it, mostly managing to hide my skin condition until I (mostly) grew out of it in my early twenties.

That’s why I’ve always been an avid follower of beauty bloggers like Em, who made the now-famous video “You Look Disgusting.” I have definitely been there, though I was never brave enough to offer my insecurities up to the merciless Greek chorus that is the internet.

Em, fellow beauty blogger Nikkie, who covered just half her face in makeup, is all about showing the world that beauty isn’t skin deep, a message that fans have taken to heart. That said, while both of these women play an important role in opening up conversations about beauty, neither was the first.

Before either of them, there was Cassandra Bankson, who became a mega-hit on YouTube in 2010 with her now-iconic “Acne Foundation Routine!” video. In it, she carefully reveals the scarring and spots that she has spent her life covering up, and then takes viewers through all the ways that makeup can harm, hide, and heal.

If this reminded you of the ways that you fight back against your own insecurities, please SHARE on Facebook for everyone out there who needs to know that they’re beautiful, inside and out!
