Anybody who knows me knows that I love to impress my friends with my culinary skills.
Anytime I find a new twist on an old recipe, I'll give it a try (like with this tasty variation on chicken and waffles). But I'm also always on the lookout for tricks I can try to make my food look better, too.
So when I spotted this exclusive way to make gorgeous, edible cucumber roses, I decided I would definitely have to give them a try.
Because these roses look so good, I assumed they would be quite challenging to make. But actually, they were so easy that I couldn't believe it. And the end results are so cool that I can really impress my friends and family without having to do very much work at all!
All I needed was a cucumber (zucchini also works), an onion, a cutting board, and a knife. And in no time at all, I had amazing-looking cucumber roses.

In addition to my onion, knife, and cutting board, I needed a long, firm vegetable like a cucumber or a zucchini. And for the onion, any large type will work, including red onion.
I started by cutting my cucumber into thin slices that were about 1/4 of an inch thick.
For each rose I made, I needed about 6-8 slices.
After peeling my onion, I cut it into slices. The goal is to get a thick slice that is the shape of a solid ring, about 1/3 inches thick.
For each rose, I needed two raw rings of onion — one that I would use as a band to hold the rose together, and the other that I would use as a stand for my rose.
Once I had my cucumber slices and onion rings, I was ready for the only "tricky" part of the rose. Although, to be honest, each rose took less than a minute so it wasn't too tricky at all.
I took one slice of cucumber and curled into into a cone shape that I held closed with my fingers. This cone would become the very middle "petal" of the rose.
I then used another slice to fold around the center piece, covering the seam. Next, I took another slice and repeated the step, covering the seam of the slice inside of it.
I added layers until I was satisfied with my rose. Again, I used about 6-8, but it will vary depending upon how thin your slices are and how big you want your rose to be.
Holding the rose in one hand, I stacked two onion rings with the other. The bottom ring had the larger side facing down so that it would form a nice base for my rose.
I placed my rose inside the top cucumber ring. If the onion ring isn't tight enough, you can add extra slices as petals, or you can try a different sized ring.
Once the ring was holding my "petals" in place, I carefully used my fingers to spread them out, creating a more floral effect.
And the finished product? These edible cucumber roses were absolutely stunning. Plus, they looked like they were made by a master of the culinary arts!
These edible roses are perfect to be served with a salad, as a snack with a dipping sauce, or as a fancy garnish at a wedding or party.
These beautiful edible cucumber roses are sure to impress your friends and family!
