Trees can often hold a lot of special memories — but, like all things in nature, even a tree's time on Earth is limited.
However, like this cat playground made from a fallen tree — there are many special ways to commemorate a plant's life.
When this DIYer's beautiful wych elm became diseased and had to be taken down, they decided to do something very special with it — and the results are incredible.
Instead of sending the whole thing to the chipper to be reduced to a pile of wood shavings, the tree's owners decided to keep a piece of their beautiful tree and incorporate it into their home.
With some glass and metal beams, the tree was transformed into a beautiful coffee table that exhibits both modern simplicity as well as displays the natural beauty of their wych elm.

He started off by sanding down a slab of the tree, removing any chainsaw marks and natural rough areas.
Look at those beautiful rings!
He then added varnish to bring out the rich colors in the wood.
For the base of the table, he welded together steel frames.
Once that was done, he added some steel rods to support the wood.
He then created a flat bar for the log to sit on.
Next, he painted the whole thing a chic matte black.
He then attached the log to the finished frames.
A plate of tinted glass on top, and he's finished!
The wood shines through the tinted glass beautifully, adding such a nice natural element.
The finished product is a beautiful way to tie nature and modern decor. It's sure to be a conversation piece for guests!
