These 20 Celebs Can’t Get Enough Of Their Adorable Rescue Pets

Chris Evans fell in love with his boxer mix, Dodger, when he filmed on location at a shelter for the film Gifted. He recalled the moment in an interview with People in 2017.

"One of the last scenes we were filming was in a pound, a kennel. I foolishly walked in and I thought, 'Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?'" Chris explained.

"And sure enough they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there. I snagged him and he’s such a good dog. They aged him at about one, he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love."

Lea Michele has always been involved in work with animal rescues. When she found a litter of kittens on the Paramount lot when shooting Glee, she took one home and named her Sheila. Another cat from the litter went home with costar Heather Morris.

After the tragic death of her boyfriend, Corey Monteith, Lea added a dog to her two rescue pets. She adopted an 8-year-old Pomeranian named Pearl.

Andy Cohen adopted his beagle-foxhound mix, Wacha, from a shelter in New Jersey. Wacha was originally in a kill shelter in West Virginia before the transfer. Andy was nervous about adopting, but he knew right away that Wacha was the perfect match.

"I thought I was saving Wacha, but he really rescued me," Andy admitted to Today.

Kristen Bell has been a very vocal advocate for adopting animals. She rescued her dog, Lola, from a shelter 13 years ago. She's since added rescues Muppet and Barb to her family.

Kristen recently appeared in a video for Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, a community service and pet adoption center. In the video, she discusses why she got into adoption.

"I felt like it should be less about the purchase and more about connecting with someone who also needs some companionship. I think a lot about all the animals that are in the pounds right now that don’t have homes that are put down because people don’t rescue enough. And I wanted to save a life."

Ian Somerhalder has a lifelong love of animals from growing up in Louisiana and seeing so many different animals in his own community. Together with his wife Nikki Reed, he created the Ian Somerhalder Foundation to help bring awareness to environmental issues and animal cruelty.

Ian and Nikki have a number of rescued dogs and cats, as well as a horse. When the couple welcomed daughter Bodhi Soleil in 2017, Ian talked to Parents about what he hoped their daughter would learn about animals growing up.

"Animals help show a child compassion, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility you can’t really get otherwise. I saw it in my own household growing up, and I see it in my household now," Ian explained. "I strongly encourage any parent to make it possible for their little ones to grow up with an animal or animals that they can love, appreciate, and take care of."

Chelsea Handler has a long history of rescuing dogs. Chelsea rescued chow chows Tammy and Chunk from kill shelters. The two dogs lived out long and wonderful lives with Chelsea, frequently appearing on her shows and traveling with her.

When she lost them both in a span of months, Chelsea decided the best way to honor their memory was to adopt another two chows in their memory. Chelsea is now mom to furballs Bert and Bernice.

Zac Efron rescued a pit bull who was just moments away from being euthanized. Maca, once named Tilly, was saved from a kill room by LA's first humane pet shop. Zac initially applied to foster her but fell in love quickly.

Taylor Swift is well-known for being a cat mom. She recently added another feline to the family. Joining Meredith and Olivia is Benjamin Button. Taylor met Benajmin on the set for her music video for "Me!"

"[The cat's handler] handed me this tiny cat and he just starts purring and … he looks at me like, ‘You’re my mom, and we’re going to live together.’ I fell in love. I looked at Brendon [Urie, lead singer of Panic! at the Disco] and he’s like, ‘You’re going to get the cat aren’t you?’" Taylor told People.

Luke Bryan started an animal rescue in memory of his late niece, Sadie Brett Boyer. Brett's Barn is near the family's Nashville home and houses over 20 animals including ponies, chickens, and goats.

Earlier this year, Luke adopted a senior dog, Poochie. Sadly, they had the good boy for just a week before he crossed the rainbow bridge. Luke and his family are currently fostering another dog, Kimmie, although some speculate she may be with the Bryans for good.

Hilary Duff and fiancé Matthew Koma brought home a senior dog in 2018, just months before they welcomed daughter Banks. Their senior dog, Lucy, came from the Love Leo Rescue and joined the couple's three other dogs.

That wasn't the only addition for the family. The couple also adopted a baby alpaca named Ivan earlier this year. Ivan is living on an alpaca farm for now until Hilary and Matthew are "ready to become farm people."

The NHL star, who is married to Julianne Hough, welcomed a new pooch to their brood last year.

"This guy was at a shelter, and needs a home. What do you think, think we should adopt him?!?" Brooks wrote on a picture where he and Julianne are snuggling a sweet husky. They decided to keep the good boy, and they named him Koda. Koda joined their other two dogs, King Charles spaniels Lexi and Harley.

Drew Barrymore is a longtime animal lover, having rescued over 10 animals in her lifetime. Drew rescued her dog, Douglas, after he was abandoned in the San Fernando Valley Fires in 2017.

In 2018, Drew took her daughters, Olive and Frankie, to adopt a kitten. They ended up coming home with three! Lucky, Peach, and Fern make it five animals for Drew, who had another dog before adopting Douglas.

Justin Theroux has been a longtime advocate for bully breeds. He also had two rescue dogs whom he memorialized with tattoos on each side of his back. Justin was working with Austin Pets Alive when he heard about a dog rescued from Hurricane Harvey.

The pooch was in bad shape following the disaster. She was taken to a high-kill shelter but was thankfully rescued by A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue. She needed time to recover, during which Justin was working on bringing her home.

Hilary Swank is a longtime animal advocate. Currently, she's the dog mom of four. She most recently took home two golden retrievers in 2017, Mulder and Scully.

Hilary spoke with Bark about her dedication to adoption. "If people are made aware, they will know that their four-legged family member is waiting for them at a shelter or rescue organization. So many people want a dog but are either misinformed or simply unaware of these facts," she explained.

Liev Schreiber appeared on a 2017 episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan. On the same episode were dogs who were rescued from Hurricane Harvey. He fell in love, and after consulting ex-wife Naomi Watts and sons Kai and Sasha, he brought two furry friends home with him.

Selena Gomez is the mom of six rescue dogs! She inherited her love of rescuing dogs from her family.

Willie, Baylor, Wallace, Fina, Chazz, and Chip recently got a new addition to the family. Selena was spotted with her newest dog, Winnie, earlier this summer.

Ryan Reynolds came together with his rescue dog, Baxter, in the sweetest story. Ryan was helping his paralyzed friend look for a new service dog after his previous one died. He walked into a Houston animal shelter, where he found the perfect chocolate lab for his friend and a special someone for himself.

"I saw this big, dumb-looking retriever staring up at me," Ryan told ABC News. "I whispered to him, ‘Hey, let’s get the hell out of here.’ And he jumped up like he spoke English fluently. He came with me, he jumped in the car, and we’ve been best buddies ever since."

Baxter has since gotten another friend, Billie.

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling added a sweet pup to their growing family recently. Eva announced the addition of Lucho to the family on Instagram.

"Meet Lucho. The newest member of our family. We adopted him from this amazing agency called Friends for Life Rescue Network. If you’re looking for a fluffy family member, adoption is a great option," the actress shared.

Simon Cowell has been a longtime animal lover. Last year, he donated £25,000 to help Humane Society International's bid to close down a South Korean dog meat farm. It's one of many activities he's done to support animal rights.

Simon adopted his mother's three dogs, Squiddly, Diddly, Freddie, following her death in 2015. This year, Simon adopted Daisy while vacationing in Barbados.

Charlize Theron grew up on a farm in South Africa, so her love of animals is longstanding. The actress is a vocal advocate for animal rights, working with a number of organizations, including PETA and Best Friends Animal Society. While she's rescued many animals before, she's currently the dog mom of two.
