This Mom Has A Unique Way Of Celebrating All Beautiful Post-Partum Bodies

When we think of the beauty of childbirth, one of the things we don't examine closely enough is the strenuous toll we place on women to conform their bodies to the standards of what a culture of photoshopping has deemed "beautiful."

Not only are these mothers recovering from their births and learning new ways of caring for their new bundle, but they're also — as if from the moment they give birth — pressured to immediately return to their pre-baby weight, a feat at once both ridiculous and demeaning.

But no longer, says a new movement calling itself Mid Drift. Founded by a doula and mother of four named Angie Sonrode, new mothers are joining together to put an end to postpartum body shaming, instead shifting the way they view their own beautiful post-baby bodies from "except [this one part I don't like]" for "acceptance."

A preview of an upcoming documentary from the movement can be seen here, but the thing that Mid Drift hopes to impart is a community of mothers who can come together, share their stories, and love their bodies just the way they are.

As Sonrode tells USA Today, mothers have earned these post-baby bodies, and they should be celebrated in all of their uniquely beautiful ways.
