Wife Surprises Soldier Husband With Dramatic Weight Loss

U.S. soldier Tino Martinez went on a tour of duty in Iraq but when he came back, his wife Diane was unrecognizable. Diane wanted to live long enough to see her three children grow up, while her husband was away she elected to have gastric bypass surgery and dropped 110 pounds.

Tino had done four tours in six years; he's used to returning home and things being different.

"Every time I leave and I come back everything is changed," he said. But when he came back this time he nearly fainted.

"Our oldest Tyler had a sign and he was holding it in front of her so I could only see her from the neck up and then when he moved — I just kind of stopped and my mouth hit the floor along with all the stuff I was carrying," Tino remembers.

Like Steven Harper, who shed pounds to join the army, Diane did this to better her life not for vanity.

"I decided to have the gastric bypass done. Not for looks or anything like that but for my general health," she says. "You know, with having three kids I wanted to be able to see them grow up. I don't want to be… having a heart attack."

Since the surgery her entire life has changed for the better. Diane is leading a more active lifestyle.

"Since dropping the weight she's gone to school, she's gotten a job. The whole house is completely different including the outside," Tino says about his wife's new love of yard work.

It's pretty clear that Tino always loved his wife but he is obviously proud of her new lease on life, too!
