When you see beautiful works of art created by others, it can feel a bit discouraging, especially if you don't have the time, the experience, or the resources to get creative yourself. Creating stunning artwork requires time, money, and fancy equipment — right?
Well, not always. As so many clever DIY-ers have proven, art can be made by anyone, with anything — like this crafter who turned a bowling ball into beautiful yard art.
But when it comes to photography, these amazing photos blow your average Instagramming out of the water— and they were all taken with a totally normal smartphone!
Melissa Vincent, a stay-at-home mom from Mississippi, creates beautifully dreamlike photos for her Instagram account. She describes herself as creative, but says she has no background in the arts or in photography. She simply began experimenting with her iPhone's photo abilities, playing with filters on Instagram and then moving on to other photo editing apps.
So what does that mean? It means that with a little experimentation, anyone can create beautiful, magical art.
Let us know what you think of these incredible photos in the comments below!
For Vincent, creating these magical landscapes is all about experimenting and having fun.
She draws inspiration from just about anywhere. This one was inspired by Harry Potter.
Others are inspired by nature and the world around her, particularly the natural beauty of her Mississippi home.
Recently, her style has evolved. She created this surreal bedroom as part of a series, which she calls "The Rooms of William Faulkner."
To create her images, Vincent uses a variety of photo editing apps. All of these images are created right on her phone.
Using different combinations of effects, she can create all kinds of scenes and moods.
She can adjust the colors, the lighting, and combine multiple images into one dreamy collage.
She can even alter the shapes of the landscape!
Although she usually provides only a short title, Vincent's creations seem to come alive with stories of their own.
Many people think she uses Photoshop to create these, but Vincent says, "I wouldn't be able to navigate Photoshop even if I owned [it]!"
Which goes to show you: you don't need tons of experience or knowledge of complex software. Just by playing around, you can create something amazing.
In case you're wondering, Vincent uses a number of apps, including Snapseed, Superimpose, Alien Sky, Flood, Circular, and Facetune, among others. And she's always trying out something new!
After playing around enough and creating many, many images, people all over the world have become fans of Vincent's artwork thanks to Instagram.
And everything she's created has been done on her phone. She just took a chance to see what would happen!
So if you're feeling creative but don't want to spend the time and money on art materials or classes, see what you can put together on your phone. And be sure to SHARE this tip with all your creative friends!
