Watch what happens when Arielle Scarcella, lesbian YouTuber, interviews members of the elder LGBT community and hits them with a few shocking homophobic statements such as: “No fats, fems, Asians or blacks;” “He’s not trans enough. He’s a f-ing idiot;” “I hate coming out stories getting press.”
Guess what? These statements were not made by homophobes but by today’s LGBT youth. After the LGBT elders get over their shock, they throw down sage advice.
They urge today’s LGBT generation to appreciate the sacrifices prior generations made to make possible the rights and freedoms LGBT youth enjoy now. To learn about where it all began, LGBT youth need look no further than Stacy Lentz. She’s co-owner of the Stonewall Inn, the historic gay bar in New York City where the gay liberation movement began on June 28, 1969.
She’s worried that today’s youth isn’t involved enough and has a sense of entitlement to the freedoms they enjoy, like kissing at an Applebee’s. “We had such a sense of family and community. It’s kind of sad that people in their 20s [don’t have] what we had: we all came together under one thing because we loved differently.”
The message is clear. LGBT youth: love your history and you elders. Share this on Facebook.
