When Carlos Pettigrew was at a parent-teacher conference, he got a phone call no father ever wants to get. Then he hit the gas on his car with only one thing on his mind: saving his four children.
Carlos' 13-year-old daughter Corbin called him and told him that the house had caught fire. When the call was suddenly disconnected, the 44-year-old dad rushed to save his young children ages 7, 9 and 13, along with their 15-year-old cousin.
“I was going to lose my children,” Carlos told CBS. “And I wasn’t ready for that.” However, going as fast as he could wasn't so ideal. The car quickly flipped over, but get this: Carlos crawled out of the vehicle and ran half a mile to his home.
Like single dad James, Carlos was willing to put his life on the line for his kids. Luckily, his children were already out of the burning home when he arrived. Firefighters say the fire was caused by a faulty extension cord behind a bookcase in the living room.
Although the fire caused $50,000 in damage, Carlos is just happy the kids are fine — clearly he was willing to do anything and everything for them. Despite the car flipping over, Carlos walked away with little injury.
