Allow me to set the scene: it's two days before Thanksgiving; Abygail is relaxing on the couch; her mother, armed with a video camera, approaches her as the two proceed to have a hilariously typical conversation between mom and daughter.
"Do you remember me saying we brought you your Christmas present early?"
"Yea."
"…And you saying you wanted permission to go upstairs and see it?"
"Yea."
"…And i said it's not here?"
"Yea."
"…And you assumed it was at Mimi Susie's house?"
"Yea."
"Well, guess what?"
"What?"
"It's out front."
But before she can spring off the sofa, Abygail has to sit and wait anxiously so that Mom can go outside and get the present ready. Little does Abygail know, her dad — an OIF veteran with the Army and a civilian contractor in Afghanistan — is standing right outside the front door.
When the surprise is ready, Abygail opens the front door, and stands there completely motionless. When reality finally sets in, her incredible reaction is enough to make anyone cry. This is what the holiday season is all about, and it's amazing to watch this daddy-daughter duo embrace for the first time in a long time.
