A simple haircut can be a truly powerful thing.
It all started when hairstylist Mandie Barnes watched a viral video about a hairdresser who gave out free haircuts to the homeless. Inspired by the selfless gesture, Mandie decided to organize a similar event in her own community — and the results were amazing. Recently, Mandie enlisted the help of professional stylists who volunteered their time and talent at the Ogden Rescue Mission to give haircuts to homeless members of the community. Mandie said, "I wanted to do it around Christmas time because I thought, 'This is the reason for the season,' you know? I want to give back and kind of remember what Christmastime is all about." Donations poured in from local businesses and friends, from food and beauty supplies, to warm hats and clothing.
Whether the cuts provided an extra boost of confidence to find a job or simply feel better about themselves for the holidays, the haircuts made these men, women and children feel human again. "I've learned what it's like to give forward again, and it comes back to you," one grateful man said before leaving the Mission that day. Just incredible.
