Teen Grows Out Hair For 11 Months, Then Donates It To Honor His Late Grandmother

Junior high student Zac Burkert decided to what many men usually don't decide to do: grow out his hair.

But Zac didn't spend 11 months growing out his hair for fun. In honorable fashion, he wanted to donate it to make wigs for those suffering form cancer.

Even for a woman nowadays, donating hair is no easy feat: the hair can't have been colored or treated in any way. For Zac, this was the easy part. But one individual has to donate eight inches or more at a time, prompting him to dedicate time to grow out his hair. In fact, he is the first young male his local salon has seen who is willing to contribute to the cause.

The cause is close to his heart. Zac wanted to honor his grandmother in a special way, by helping others. His grandmother passed away form ovarian cancer, and he remembers how she lost her hair during her battle with the disease. He wanted to change that for others in similar situations.

He says, "I wanted to grow it out and go to someone like my grandma who lost their hair."

He donated his hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and in partnership with a local beauty salon, his donated hair will be made into a wig that may find an owner close to home!
