She Transforms Old Power Line Insulators Into A Beautiful Coat Rack

Cool and beautiful DIY projects can often be created from the most unexpected materials.

With just a little bit of creativity and imagination, weird items can be transformed into some of the best DIY projects  like lamps made from antique chicken feeders.

Katie from Creatively Living had a pile of insulators sitting around on her parent's farm. Insulators are those oddly shaped glass knobs that you can sometimes see on top of telephone poles and transformer towers.

After searching online, Katie found that they weren't worth much, so she decided to use them in an entirely unexpected way.

Using the old insulators as pegs, Katie created a one-of-a-kind coat rack for a truly unique, conversation-starting home addition!

Katie had a bunch of these glass insulators hanging around her parents' farm, and she wanted to put them to good use.

She decided to create two different DIY coat racks  a colorful one, and a more chic-looking one.

She used an old wooden baseboard as the base for each coat rack, and screwed in some wooden dowels.

Katie used a large amount of Liquid Nails along the top and bottom of the insulators to secure them to the dowels.

For the clear insulators, Katie painted the wooden dowels white since she knew they would show through.

To make the wood look distressed, Katie used a crackle finish and painted over it with white paint.

She used a putty knife to scrape away some of the paint, and then sanded the wood before covering it with a wax finish.

The clear insulators against the distressed white wood brought a chic rusticity to this particular coat rack.

The more colorful rack used aqua-colored insulators for a fun and vibrant feel.
