It's a horrible truth that domestic violence still occurs all over the world at an alarming rate. Women in all countries are still physically assaulted by the men who originally promised to love them, and often that violence has deadly consequences.
Luckily, Darrian Amaker managed to escape her abusive boyfriend. The man she once loved more than anything had planned to kill her a few days after Thanksgiving. And though she managed to get away from him, she was in horrible shape when she finally got herself to a hospital.
Though she is physically safe now, and the monster now faces many years behind bars, she has a long way to go before she is physically and emotionally healed of these horrible wounds.
Darrian is a photographer, singer and writer; she loves to experience life, and though her most recent experience was unthinkably horrifying, she decided she had to share her victory with the world. Bruised and battered, she began to film herself singing a truly amazing song filled with loss, hope, and passion for living.
In her Facebook post, she left a heartbreaking message to go along with her video:
“I don’t generally record videos of myself but it was the only thing I wanted to do in the hospital. I insisted — it felt important and a small triumph to make something, salvage anything from my shipwrecked heart… Domestic violence is not a faraway issue. It affects people you know, cheerful people, people who sing, people who love. We the humans must be better, kinder, stronger. We the loving must not tolerate abuse. We the living must facilitate life.”
