When it comes to helping out abandoned animals, there are so many ways that we can make a difference.
Adopting a pet or volunteering at an animal shelter might not be for everyone. But there are also plenty of things we can do to help animals in need that are a little more unexpected — like with these incredible mechanics who saved a cat from a car wheel well.
With the recent blizzard that hit the eastern part of the United States, many people were left stranded, as their cars were buried under a few feet of snow.
However, one anonymous New Yorker has gone above and beyond to help complete strangers, by shoveling out their buried cars for free.
What does this "shoveling angel" have to do with rescuing pets? When I saw why he was shoveling out these cars, my heart absolutely melted.
Scroll through below to see just how this amazing individual is helping to rescue animals one shovelful at a time.
While many Americans were affected by January's historic blizzard, one New Yorker decided to make a difference in a very unexpected way.
This anonymous individual went around New York City shoveling out buried cars for complete strangers. But surprisingly, this good samaritan was looking to help animals in the process.
This note was given to EV Grieve after it was found on a car in New York's East Village. The note reads:
“Your car was shoveled out of the snow for FREE on the evening of Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
If you would like to show your gratitude you could make a small donation to Mighty Mutts Animal Rescue, at www.mightymutts.org.
If not, that is fine and enjoy the free shoveling. Thanks.”
The identity of this good samaritan remains a mystery. However, the organization this individual has drawn attention to is one that has been helping animals in need for quite some time.
According to their Facebook page, Mighty Mutts is a "no-kill cat and dog rescue organization dedicated to finding forever homes for the mighty mutts and meows of NYC."
The Dodo spoke with the Executive Director of Mighty Mutts, Michelle Marlow, who told them, "We don't know who left the notes, but I think the proactive approach to fundraising is wonderful."
Marlow continued, "People are always looking for ways to help out, and this is a very creative and helpful one at that."
This incredible individual's deeds have not gone unnoticed, with their note and story being shared all over Facebook and other social media.
And while this New Yorker clearly has made an effort to remain anonymous, EV Grieve was able to receive a few answers from them.
The person told EV Grieve, "I didn't put much thought into this before doing it. But while doing it, I started thinking it would be a good fundraising project for Mighty Mutts or any charity."
They continued to EV Grieve, "Whether or not they want to donate is irrelevant — it's a simple way to do something nice."
Marlow of Mighty Mutts told the Dodo, "Special thanks to our 'shoveling angel,' whoever you are!"
This good samaritan has found a wonderful way to not only help snow-bound New Yorkers, but to have a positive impact on the lives of in-need cats and dogs as well.
