Man Dies After Entering Tiger Enclosure And His Family Is Desperate To Understand Why He Did It

A man reportedly climbed into a tiger enclosure at a wildlife park in the UK and was then attacked by a tiger. He sustained injuries that led to his death, according to The Independent. The man was later identified as William Chapman, a former child actor, and after his death, his family was left wondering why he went into the enclosure and what happened.

Chapman visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park alone in October 2026. In video footage shared on social media, including by Donald Trump on Truth Social, Chapman is seen on the ground with a tiger, which swats at him. More disturbing images of the tiger attack were also shared on social media.

The family of the man who died from a tiger attack at a wildlife park responded to the incident.

Per The Independent, Chapman’s family said in a statement that footage from the incident has caused further distress on them. They also said that they are trying to piece together what happened to compel Chapman to enter the area which is typically off-limits to patrons at the wildlife park.

“William was a bright, warm and engaging young man whom his family dearly loved and William loved them back,” the family said in the statement. “Sadly, William suffered from significant mental illness over a number of years and was consequently prescribed strong medication. It will be for the coroner to decide what part this played in his death. We would ask everybody to respect that process.”

According to users on Reddit, Chapman’s Instagram account contained uploaded footage from the tiger attack that was posted moments before Chapman’s death. Users also shared that there are images of Chapman with weapons. However, his account has reportedly since been taken down.

The man filmed himself as he approached the tiger enclosure.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), it looks like Chapman did indeed film himself as he approached the area of the wildlife park where tigers are housed in an outdoor enclosure. The video is just a few seconds long, but it appears to have been uploaded before Chapman entered the enclosure, was seen by a tiger, and attacked.

People are heard in the background saying a chorus of “Oh my God” out of shock at Chapman’s apparent stunt which resulted in his death. Users who commented on the X post questioned whether Chapman thought he would get out of the enclosure alive or if he purposely entered it with the intent on harming himself. His family has similar questions.

With a back and forth from people who are shaming Chapman postmortem and others feeling for his family, one person commented under another post with, “You can feel sympathy for the man who died AND believe that entering a dangerous animal’s enclosure is an incredibly reckless decision. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Why does everyone act like you have to pick a side?”

There are questions about William Chapman’s mental health now.

In Chapman’s family’s statement, they said that Chapman lived with “significant mental illness over a number of years.” On Reddit, one user attributed Chapman’s reported mental health struggles to being a child actor.

“Very few of those seem to end up well-adjusted for some reason,” they commented. “You could argue that this pathological need for attention and relevance is what ultimately led to his death.”

Others questioned that and suggested that Chapman was “overconfident” in his stunt. But his family continued to try and figure out what happened.
