Identical twins might have a strangely close bond, closer than most siblings, but do famous twins Cole and Dylan Sprouse have incest to thank for their particular brand of closeness? According to Dylan, that’s the case. He explained on his podcast, Wildmen, that he did some digging into his family tree and ancestry and found incest to explain how his family became what it is today.
Or, in Dylan’s words, he and his brother are “children of incest.” The revelation was wild for him at the time and, he said on his podcast, he had to call Cole right away to share the information. What that means for the former Suite Life of Zack and Cody is, well, probably nothing. However, Dylan seems to think this bit of information he uncovered while accidentally playing private investigator into his family tree is worth sharing with the world.
Dylan Sprouse made some bold claims about his family tree.
During an episode of his Wildmen podcast, Dylan shared with co-host Brendan Columbus that he used an ancestry website to figure out his family line. He discovered that there are not only sets of twins on his mom’s side of the family, but also his dad’s. Which, according to Dylan, helped him learn that this is because the families are intermingled.
“I called Cole and I was like, ‘Dude, I just found out some crazy f–king s–t,’ and I sent him a picture and he goes, ‘Not looking at that,’” Dylan said. “Closed it, hung up on me. And the only reason I started to get suspicious is because when I started talking to my dad’s side of the family, I found out that his uncles were identical twins.” From there, the unraveling really began to happen and Dylan continued his investigation of sorts.
Dylan also joked that his family tree might look like the standard tree shape initially, but then it comes back together in a circle. The entire situation seems to be funny for Dylan, which is a good thing, because it’s a wild revelation by anyone’s standards. But, despite the dramatic reveal from Dylan, fans seem to take comfort in the fact that the alleged incest happened generations before Dylan and Cole were ever born.
“I don’t think you should call yourself a child of incest if the incest in question occurred in the 1800s,” one person wrote on Reddit.
To that, someone replied, “OK thanks for saying this because I thought it was a lot more recent and got very alarmed.”
Cole and Dylan Sprouse have a complicated relationship with their mother.
It’s not clear what led Dylan to search out his family tree. But, when it comes to the present day relationship with the family, both Dylan and Cole reportedly have a strained relationship with their mom, Melanie Wright. In 2023, Cole shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast that Melanie was the “financially the most irresponsible woman ever.” According to People, the brothers are not in close contact with their mother due to her role in thrusting them into the spotlight as babies and continuously as young kids.
The Sprouse brothers are much closer to their father today.
During the same Call Her Daddy podcast episode, Cole revealed that, possibly due to his mother’s mental health and addiction, his father, Matthew Sprouse, was granted full custody of him and Dylan when they were 10 years old. Cole also called Matthew his “best friend.” And, over the years, he has managed to keep both Cole and Dylan on a path to explore entertainment in the way the twins have wanted to individually.
