Regardless of how you feel about Donald Trump, he seems Hell bent on cracking the same jokes at wife Melania Trump‘s expense. More recently, his continued jokes include comments about how Melania is not a fan of his impersonations of transgender athletes and how she would rather not see Trump continuously perform his now-signature dance to “YMCA.” She seems to see it for the pure cringe that it is. Same girl, same.
And when HuffPost spoke with therapists about Trump making jokes about Melania and continuing to do the very thing she has advised against, the experts are in agreement that it’s not a good look for Trump as a husband. Those who already oppose Trump’s policies and values probably could have told you that, though.
Donald Trump’s jokes about Melania Trump are tired at this point.
During Trump’s campaign stops ahead of the mid-term elections, he has continuously made jokes about Melania and what she does and doesn’t like about his commentary and jokes he gives out, unprompted, during meetings and speeches alike. During an October 2026 rally in Wasilla, Ala., Trump spoke about transgender athletes and noted multiple times how Melania doesn’t like when he makes jokes about the athletes, but he does it anyway.
“I’m telling you my wife doesn’t like these stories,” Trump said to the crowd. “I said, ‘I just won the damn election in a landslide. Leave me alone’. She hates these. No, she’s an elegant person.”
Trump then pantomimed an exaggerated movement from a transgender weightlifter competitor. He noted that Melania also hates this gimmick, and even told Trump that it is very “unpresidential.” But then, after asking the crowd if he should finish the mock impersonation, Trump continued.
Har har har. So the joke here is, apparently, that Trump isn’t going to be controlled by a woman, even FLOTUS. Regardless of what she thinks, he’s going to tell his jokes, do his cringe dances, and laugh at Melania feeling embarrassed by it all. At least, that’s the energy Trump is giving.
Amy Begel, a therapist at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, told HuffPost, “Like everything else Trump does, his display at his rally is of course about him, with Melania in this case as the punching bag. His preferred mode of exercising power often comes with doses of cruelty and humiliation, in evidence here.” She also called it a “power play.”
A Los Angeles psychologist, Greg Cason, added to the outlet, “He’s not only disregarding a piece of advice she gave to him in private, but then revealing it to an audience and asking them to laugh at it.”
People have questioned Melania’s attraction to Trump for years.
Given what some might see as a bit of a humiliation ritual with Trump, some critics believe that Melania doesn’t feel much attraction or love for her husband anymore, if she ever did. Of course, that’s all speculation, especially since it comes from those who don’t support Trump. However, in a post on Reddit, users pointed out how Melania appears to dodge kisses and affection from Trump in public.
One person joked, as though Melania said it, “Kissing on mouth in public costs you extra $10,000!”
Another also joked in the comments that it’s “true love.”
Some are convinced that Melania actually hates Trump at this point.

When Melania appeared with Trump in the Rose Garden at the White House on Oct. 19, 2026 for the signing of the Women’s Health Division executive order, she was filmed turning her head when Trump attempted to kiss her. She also barely shook his hand when he tried to give hers a shake during the on-camera moment. It was enough to once again prove the naysayers right in their assessment of who Trump is and how Melania feels about him.
“She seriously hates him so much. Which is totally understandable,” a user commented on a Reddit post about it.
Someone agreed, “Only reason she stays married to the evil man is for his $$$.”
