In the years following the psychedelic musical evolution of the 1960s, bands of the 1970s preferred to provide chill vibes with their soft rock hits. Groups like The Eagles and Creedence Clearwater Revival brought their smooth and folksy charm to the radio waves with their tunes. Another band gliding their way up the charts with their polished melodies? Fleetwood Mac.
It's all the more impressive when you consider how much backstage drama was occurring between the bandmates at the time. Of the five members, four were in a relationship with another member of the band which, predictably, made things tricky when it was time to record another album after those relationships ended. On the heels of both Christie and John McVie's divorce and the break-up of longtime couple Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, it definitely made for some rocky studio sessions. Mick Fleetwood also found himself caught between their romantic entanglements, but the incredible talents of each one still shined through on every track.
Though many of the tense lyrics happened to be inspired by their collective heartbreak, the emotions only fed into their sound to become what many critics and fans alike have called the band's most definitive album, Rumours. All the proof you need is in this live performance of their single, "Dreams," captured just after they finished the record in 1977. You won't see any sign of stress, just an amazing example of their ethereal, yet powerful energy.
