Hollywood is full of celebrity feuds. There are stars that loathe each other. Some of that is because of politics. Others feud over more personal differences. No Hollywood feud is as wholesome and productive as that of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
OK, so the two actors aren't actually feuding. They're really good friends who like to mess with each other. Sometimes it's for their own entertainment. Sometimes it's for our entertainment. In this case, it's for a good cause.
The two actors have been going back and forth with each other for nearly five years, believe it or not. In 2009, they starred opposite each other in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It was the first time Ryan starred as Deadpool. When he went on to film the solo Deadpool movie in 2015, he posted a video mocking Hugh's Aussie accent. A year later, Hugh shot back with a video mocking Ryan.
The feud peaked in 2018 with a prank involving an ugly Christmas sweater. The prank was brought back this year, this time for a good cause, with some help from Tipsy Elves.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have been engaged in a feud for quite some time. It all started back in 2015 when Ryan posted a video in full Deadpool makeup. In the video, he mocked Hugh's Australian accent.
A year later, Hugh made a video of his own. In the video, he's holding up a mask of Ryan's face and mocking the star, who had just gotten a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. "How could a guy who failed his high school drama class be this talented?" Hugh joked.
Over the next two years, the friends mastered the art of sniping at each other over social media. The insults the two have traded have been all things from hilarious to brutal in all the best ways. In 2018, a new member stepped into the picture.
In December, Ryan posted a photo on Instagram. It shows him in an ugly Christmas sweater with a less-than-enthusiastic look on his face. On one side of him is Hugh, laughing. On the other is Jake Gyllenhaal, also laughing.
"These [expletive] [expletives] said it was a sweater party," Ryan lamented in the caption. The post received more than 8.1 million likes in four days. The likes were clearly nothing compared to the joy that it brought Hugh and Jake to get one over on Ryan.
Now, you may have thought this feud would be over by now. They did lead us to believe that, after all, with their truce video in January 2019.
"Official truce with @realhughjackman! As a gesture of goodwill, I’m gonna make a beautiful ad for his company, Laughing Man Coffee. Can’t wait!" Ryan shared.
Some of the funnier moments that have transpired since will prove otherwise, however. In an interview for Ryan's movie, 6 Underground, he touched on his feud with Hugh.
"I mean, you guys have all been duped. You think he's this benevolent ambassador to your country. People don't realize he's from Winnipeg, Canada," he joked.
Hugh responded to the dig. He edited his own face on a movie posted for Ryan's upcoming film, Free Guy.
"A small edit to make this a much better promotional tool. Thank you @karthik_nj #repost," Hugh added.
Hugh also made a dig at the fact that both he and Ryan have been named People's Sexiest Man Alive.
In a post congratulating the 2019 recipient, John Legend, he joked, "Dear John. Massive congrats on joining this very very prestigious group. 99% of the time, People Magazine gets it right. Such as Blake, DJ, etc … But a word of caution. There is the 1%. Exhibit A. It’s important that you fall in with the right crowd. Enjoy your reign. Love Hugh".
The feud is back this holiday season, and for a very good reason. Ryan shared an animated video featuring his ugly Christmas sweater on Instagram. As the video continues, you see that Ryan has gifted the same sweater to a number of children battling illnesses.
"The Sweater Returns!" Ryan captioned the video. "Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays. Thank you, @RoosterTeeth @sickkidsvs @Rowlandbb and @tipsyelves." Ryan gifted the sweaters in partnership with SickKids Foundation.
Ryan is doing even more to help those in need. He's matching any donations to SickKids Foundation, up to $100,000. The money will help combat the greatest challenges to children's health.
Hugh also decided to get in on the ugly sweater fun. He posted a photo of himself and Ryan where he's wearing the sweater. "I can’t believe I agreed to wear the matching underwear too. #thesweaterreturns," he wrote.
Many celebrities take themselves very seriously. Thankfully, Ryan and Hugh aren't like those other celebrities. It's great to see that their never-ending feud has taken on new life for a good cause. If you're interested in picking up the sweater yourself, check it out on Tipsy Elves.
