Doctor And Patient Play Music Together Minutes Before Surgery

Sergio has a fear of hospitals. You can imagine his anxiety as he prepped for surgery in early 2016 at Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital in California. His urologist, Dr. William Sloan, knew his patient was extremely nervous about surgery — but he also knew that Sergio is a musician. "Don't worry, your body is like a fine instrument, I'll tune it," he told Sergio.

This sentiment alone was enough to calm Sergio's nerves — but the doctor didn't stop there. Dr. Sloan told Sergio to bring his guitar with him to the hospital on the day of his procedure. In the video below, captured on a cell phone by the director of surgery, Dr. Sloan joins Sergio in a soothing musical duet straight from the pre-op gurney. You can see how Sergio is instantly relaxed by the sounds of their instruments. Just minutes later, Sergio was wheeled into the operating room.

Now, Sergio calls the hospital his "happy place." He even hopes to return and play music for other patients!

Dr. Sloane is truly an incredible doctor who went above and beyond for his nervous patient. Please enjoy this heartwarming pre-op performance, and SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!
