As soon as Kara Oberer of Ekerd College connected with the ball she knew it was a home run; in fact, it was the first home run she ever hit in her entire college softball career. However, it wasn't the home run, which ended up winning the game, that stands out in Oberer's mind, it's the way the other team reacted.
The moment Oberer crossed first base she knew something was wrong. Her knee locked up and shooting pain sent shockwaves throughout her leg. She fell to the ground and immediately began clutching first base. She couldn't move her leg, she couldn't stand, let alone run around the bases to secure the win. Unfortunately, softball rules state that she had to cross home plate herself, unless another player subbed in for her but if they did her home run would be rules a two-run single.
Her team needed her to cross the plate to secure the W.
Then, suddenly, without even a moment to think of what to do, Florida Souther College's pitcher Chelsea Oglevie and her catcher quickly picked up Oberer and carried her around the bases. The amazing moment was caught on camera and is guaranteed to make you well up!
