Joshua Jackson and his wife, Jodie Turner-Smith, just welcomed their first baby! The former Dawson’s Creek actor confirmed they had a baby girl. A rep for Joshua told Today, “Both mother and baby are happy and healthy.”
It’s exciting news for the couple, as both are first-time parents. Joshua just recently opened up about becoming a dad in an interview with BuzzFeed News. He shared that he was excited and nervous, especially given what’s happening in the world that’s outside of his control.
"I've never been a parent before, so I'm not quite sure how much of this is just first baby anxiety," he said. “But for us, in this house, it’s just the two of us leaning on each other, (being) open, about like, ‘Yeah, man, it’s stressful! This is a lot to deal with.’”
While there's definitely a lot to deal with now that the baby is here, hopefully the couple can hunker down and focus on their new little one. Joshua also says he has plenty of support from his costars.
Becoming a parent is definitely stressful even in the best of times. Thankfully, it seems like everything went as planned during the birth — and that both mom Jodie and the new addition (whose name we don’t yet know) are doing great. Now for the real work of parenting to begin!
Joshua and Jodie were married in December 2019. Recently they have been staying close to home like the rest of the country. "We, like everyone else, are just trying to figure this thing out on a day-by-day basis,” Joshua said. “So the only times we are really out of the house are to get food or go for a walk around the block.”
Outside of family life, Joshua has kept busy. The actor found fame early, starring in roles like The Mighty Ducks as a child actor. Then he became a teen heartthrob in Dawson's Creek, where his stardom really exploded. But unlike many actors we got to know as younger stars, he managed to land some stellar roles and segue his fame as a child and a teen actor into an impressive career as an adult, too.
Joshua starred in the Showtime series The Affair, where he played a father who had lost a child. It was an incredibly serious role for the actor. That role, along with others, furthered his reputation for being capable of that kind of on-screen depth.
Now he's starring in the new Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere, which recently dropped. Fans have been excited for the series, which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Joshua says he's learned a lot from both of those costars when it comes to pregnancy and parenting advice.
“Both of them were incredibly helpful, both in like, finding doctors, OBs, just resources of people to talk to, and then, frankly, just leading by example,” Joshua said. It's great that he's had such strong women in his life to give him advice. His wife likely appreciates that he's getting lots of good information on parenting from other women, too!
Before marrying Jodie, Joshua had some other very public relationships. He dated costar Katie Holmes back in their Dawson's Creek days. His longest-running relationship was with actress Diane Kruger. The two dated from 2006 until 2016, when they broke off their romance.
It seems like Joshua is very happily settled down now. We got some adorable glimpses of him and Jodie during her pregnancy. While Joshua didn't share too much on social media, Jodie shared some belly photos, as well as some glammed-up photos.
Jodie is a pretty big star in her own right. She's a British model and an actress best known for her work in Nightflyers, The Last Ship, and Queen & Slim. While early on the two were very quiet about their relationship, they've been proudly together for a while now. They shared with the public that they were having a baby girl several months ago.
We can't wait for more updates on how the new parents are doing. Congrats to Joshua and Jodie on their new baby girl! We'll be sending lots of well-wishes their way and hoping to catch a glimpse of their sweet daughter soon.
