It's safe to say that Jonathan Allen is one of the strongest performers to grace the America's Got Talent stage… and it's not just because of his incredible singing voice.
Like many contestants on the show, Allen found something in music that he was missing from his own life. As a teenager, he struggled with self acceptance and hid his sexuality from his parents, taking solace in singing. On his 18th birthday, Jonathan was incredibly brave and came out to his parents, only to be rejected, abandoned, and kicked out of their home.
Such devastation could seriously damage a young person's life, but Allen chose to stay strong and continue practicing his amazing talent. When he finally made it to the America's Got Talent stage, Allen revealed his unbelievable opera voice and was cheered on by a standing ovation. The judges told Allen that it didn't matter if his family didn't accept him, he now had a new family to lean on and through his music he has found people that truly accept him the way he is.
What an inspiring story for anyone struggling in life. It's impossible not to be amazed by his brave soul.
