Mary-Kate’s Ex-Husband May Have Moved His Ex-Wife And Kids Into Their Home The ‘Moment’ She Left

As anticipated, details about Mary-Kate Olsen's divorce from French banker Olivier Sarkozy continue to ooze out onto the internet. In the latest update, sources close to the couple have said that Olivier reportedly moved his ex-wife and their two children into the home he shared with Mary-Kate "the moment MK drove out of the driveway in April."

The story goes like this: Mary-Kate and Olivier were planning to ride out the current health crisis in their home in the Hamptons. However, their marriage was under tremendous strain, and at some point Mary-Kate decided to leave the home instead. The same source also claims that while Mary-Kate filed her emergency divorce bid in May, the couple actually split up in April.

Page Six reports that "Olivier was concerned for the safety of his family in New York during the pandemic. He insisted to Mary-Kate that he wanted to bring his ex-wife, their kids and his mother from the city, to their Bridgehampton home."

So here's the thing: While technically, Mary-Kate and Olivier definitely had enough room fit everyone (they reportedly lived in a five-bedroom, 4,000-square-foot Bridgehampton mansion), it's also understandable that Mary-Kate wasn't totally comfortable with the idea that her husband's ex-wife would be sharing their home for an indeterminate amount of weeks.

The Page Six source added, "Maybe French people culturally have a different view of marriage, and while Mary-Kate loves his children, it was too much to have his ex-wife living with them during the pandemic. Would you want the ex-wife living with you for an unforeseeable amount of time in the middle of a crisis?"

Everyone is clear that Olivier and Charlotte aren't romantically linked in any way, but the source claimed, "The moment MK drove out of the driveway in April, Olivier had his mother, kids, and wait for this … Charlotte, his ex-wife, move in to keep them in a safer place."

Mary-Kate and Charlotte have also spent plenty of time together, and Mary-Kate has been a stepmother to Charlotte and Olivier's children. "It was not uncommon for Charlotte to be around and stay in a separate bedroom in the Hamptons on holidays or birthdays. They have two kids and have always put them first. In their French way, family comes first, even with a divorce. Charlotte was even at Olivier's wedding to Mary-Kate."

And the source also added that Mary-Kate and Olivier's marriage was gradually falling apart, but moving in his entire family was just the end of the road for Mary-Kate. "It was simply erosion … growing apart. No cheating or betrayals … sometimes couples just run their course. The plan to move in his family was his way of moving on, and the final straw for Mary-Kate."

Charlotte and Olivier were married for 14 years before they divorced in 2010, but apparently they are on great terms. "His first divorce was actually smooth. French law had allowed him to give her a very small amount, 10 percent, but he gave her 50 percent. He and Charlotte are on good, very friendly terms … right now in Bridgehampton they are happily all eating long lunches."

Charlotte also currently lives in New York, so the family isn't breaking any major rules by moving into the home together. In other words, Olivier wouldn't have been flying his ex-wife, his mother, and his children over from France in violation of international social distancing guidelines.

Mary-Kate is currently said to be staying in a home she is renting in the Hamptons. She also filed for divorce in New York City on Monday, and it can probably be assumed that this petition will move ahead. Her emergency divorce bid was denied earlier this month.

There haven't been any further updates about the apartment that the two shared in New York City that Mary-Kate was originally very worried about. Her fear that she would be unable to access the home and retrieve her belongings was a huge part of what drove her to file the emergency bid in the first place.

Many believe this latest update is a sure sign that Mary-Kate and Olivier's divorce will only get messier. The notoriously private designer and former child star rarely puts her private life out there for public consumption, but in this situation she may not be able to completely control the narrative.
