Raven-Symoné is a married woman! The actress, singer, and producer and her girlfriend, Miranda Maday, recently got married.
Raven-Symoné shared the happy news to Instagram, where she wrote, "I got married to a woman who understands me from trigger to joy, from breakfast to midnight snack, from stage to home. I love you Mrs. Pearman-Maday! Let's tear this world a new [expletive]!!! I's married NOW."
Raven-Symoné began her career as a child, and she had several roles in television. She is probably most well-known for playing Olivia on The Cosby Show from 1989 to 1992 and for playing Nicole on Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. However, she went on to have quite a successful career following the ending of both shows. Raven-Symoné has also starred in several films, including Dr. Dolittle, Dr. Dolittle 2, and College Road Trip, in addition to numerous television films, such as Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century and The Cheetah Girls.
Raven-Symoné came out as gay publicly in 2013. She did so in a pretty on-brand way: by tweeting. She wrote, "I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you."
The tweet came after years of speculation about her sexuality that was often frustrating for the former child star.
In 2012, she wrote: "I'm not one, in my 25-year career to disclose who I'm dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm dating to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life. hat is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I'm not harming anyone."
She also sat down for an interview for Oprah's "Where Are They Now?" series in 2014, and she addressed her sexuality more explicitly. She noted that she knew her sexual preference pretty early. "In that topic of dating and in love, I knew when I was like 12. I was looking at everything."
However, she also pushed back against rushing into a label. "I don't want to be labeled gay. I want to be labeled a human who loves humans."
In fact, at the time she pushed back against all labels. She added, "I'm tired of being labeled. I'm an American. I'm not an African-American — I'm American."
The latter statement surprised Oprah, who warned her that she might "set Twitter on fire" with her comments. Raven-Symoné seemed unbothered. She added, "I will say this. I don't know where my roots go to. I don't know how far back they go. … I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I'm American. And that's a colorless person."
Raven-Symoné's wife, Miranda, tends to keep a low profile in the public eye. She's not super active on Instagram, but she did share a few photos from the day in her IG stories on the platform. It's understood that Miranda currently works in social media for a Los Angeles-based publication.
We also don't know when Raven-Symoné and Miranda met. In fact, one of the few things that we do know about Miranda is that in addition to working in social media, she's a trained doula, or birthing assistant. In 2019, part of a post she wrote about Mother's Day included this note: "As a doula, I am privileged to witness the incredible strength each woman embodies while bringing their baby earth-side (c sections count, too!) and the fierce love, sacrifice and work it takes to raise a child."
