Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches bring back so many memories from my childhood. It's a yummy treat for kids (and adults, alike) that is so easy to make. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, chef John has put a whole new twist on the classic, and it is delectable!
In the video, the chef fries the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, creating an ooey-gooey filling. What a great cooking trick.
"I am obsessed with the thought of frying things on white bread, which led to being obsessed with the thought of frying things in white bread. These fried peanut butter and jelly pinchy pies are the result," the chef admits.
In the step-by-step demonstration, he cuts white bread into three-and-a-half-inch rounds using a round cutter. Then, he spreads peanut butter into the center of two slices of bread, leaving a half-inch space around the border and repeats with the jelly for the remaining two slices of bread. He puts the slices together and presses down the edges to form a seal.
Finally, he place the pies in preheated oil and cooks them until they're golden and crispy. As they cool, he dusts the pies with powdered sugar. This recipe is so simple and takes less than 10 minutes to make. As he mentions in the video, the possibilities are endless as far as stuffings go.
