There is finally hope for dementia patients. Studies claim that music therapy may help them regain lost memories.
Music therapist John Abel, who works with elders at A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab at Wesley Woods, claims he's seen music improve everything from patients' motor skills to stimulating memory.
In the video, he sits with 99-year-old Rosemary Bauer. As soon as she puts the headphones on and hears the music, she begins to recover old memories. She smiles and hums along with the song.
Many adults visiting their elderly parents also agree that the music therapy is a godsend. Linda Mabry admits that dementia has taken her mother from her, but the music brings her back.
"She looks right at me, looks into my eyes and lets me know that she knows me, and that just makes it awesome," Mabry told Alive 11 after her mother listened to music.
The best part of this entire video, though, may be the reaction of the newscaster after the story. Music truly touches people. Please SHARE!
