Kids grow so fast, and for parents, it can be frustrating to continuously buy your children shoes that they'll outgrow just months later. But now, inventor Kenton Lee has found an amazing solution to this age-old problem.
Lee was working at an orphanage in Kenya when he noticed a little girl with the ends of her shoes cut off and her toes sticking out. It was then that he came up with the idea for The Shoe That Grows. The shoe, which is made with simple, quality materials of leather, compressed rubber, and snaps, can grow five sizes and can last up to five years.
It's amazing how the simplest invention can change millions of lives. While most people can afford to buy clothing for every stage of their child's growth, not everyone has that luxury. This clever new shoe invention is helping billions of children living in extreme poverty around the world, who go to school barefoot and are infected with soil-transmitted diseases.
According to the official website, a $10 donation to Lee's nonprofit, The Shoe That Grows, is enough to send a free pair of shoes to a child. They're currently being distributed in the most needed towns of Ecuador, Haiti, Ghana, and Kenya.
