She Was Sleeping Outside In The Cold Rain. What He Built For Her? I’m In TEARS.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. There are thousands of homeless people in West Oakland, CA. To many, they're invisible — cast out of society and treated like second class citizens.

Enter Gregory Kloehn, an artist and construction contractor who came to befriend his homeless neighbors while taking photographs of those less fortunate. In a video brought to us by Nation Swell, you're about to meet this modern-day hero and some of his grateful friends.

Inspired by their resourcefulness in the face of poverty, he used his creativity to make tiny homes — using illegally dumped items found on the streets. From refrigerator shelves to microwave doors, Greg has built 35 miniature homes for the homeless. His unique structures cost less than $100 to build, and he can even complete one home in just a day! Greg even finishes the homes with whimsy touches, bright colors, and vibrant personality, all while providing residents with locks, privacy, and rain-proof roofs. Mostly famously, he created a house out of a dumpster.

The residents are eternally thankful for their safe, dry spaces that provide relief and shelter. Inspired by his acts of kindness, other builders have made homes for homeless people across the country.

What an incredible contribution to humanity. Greg, you're amazing!
