When you work in a hospital, you need to be prepared for just about anything.
Doctors need to constantly be on their toes, especially when it comes to the nursery ward. From men in "labor," like this crazy father, to women who didn't even know they were pregnant, you would think doctors have seen it all.
However, one thing doctors, staff, and patients alike struggle preparing for is when a natural disaster strikes, and luckily for new mothers in Houston, TX hospitals, one doctor was able to help divert a true tragedy.
Heavy rains caused the hospital to flood — just as at least two pregnant women were going into labor. Dr. Bassem Maximos rushed out the door to deliver the babies, but almost didn't make it, as his car got stranded in the heavy rain and rising water.
The doctor could have just waited for help to arrive, but he worried he wouldn't make it to the hospital in time and decided to wade through the waist-high water for more than half a mile. Melissa Vasquez and Monika Theide were beyond grateful when their doctor showed up just in time to deliver their newborns.
Maximos says he's delivered dozens of babies, but these are two he will never, ever forget.
