Remove The Seat Of A Chair To Make A Secret Hiding Spot

Because I live in a teeny-tiny apartment, I'm always looking for clever new ways to help me conserve space.

Sure, I could just get rid of some stuff, but why do that when there's a world of brilliant life hacks floating around the internet?

And when it comes to dining, I need a lot of organizational help. With all of my seasonal tablecloths, cute cloth napkins, and holiday tchotchkes, I'm constantly in search of a brilliant storage hack to help ease my hoarding woes.

That's how I came across this ingenious tutorial. Who knew that I'd been sitting on the answer all along? By just flipping over a chair and whipping out some power tools, I have four new places to store all my dining needs.

What's more, this clever hack could also serve as the perfect way to stash valuables or plan a fun surprise. The possibilities are endless!

Needing some additional storage space — or perhaps a future hiding spot — this clever crafter took an old dining room chair and got to work.

He started by flipping the chair over and examining the bottom.

He removed the L brackets and set them aside. He'll be using them again later.

Once it was detached, he removed the seat cushion.

He then flipped it over and installed two hinges.

He screwed the hinges in to the front of the chair, where your knees would touch when sitting.

Next, he grabbed a piece of chipboard and measured it to fit the bottom of his chair. This will become the base of the storage space.

After cutting the chipboard to size and lining it in felt, he screwed in a support beam and the two L brackets from earlier. He spray painted everything black to make it blend.

He also spray painted the inner parts of the chair to further meld it all together.

The bottom of the seat cushion was removed from its hinges and also painted.

Next, he added two more L brackets to the support beam. These were also painted black.

Then, he screwed each of the four L beams into the chair.

Finally, he screwed the cushion back into its hinges.

His storage space is complete!

It can now store tablecloths, napkins, placemats, or maybe even some special valuables.
