Summer is the perfect time for a barbecue.
And as someone who loves to eat barbecue, I am always on the lookout for a tasty new dish, like grilled ice cream. So when I saw this recipe to make pulled pork using one surprise ingredient, I knew I had to try it.
This video shows an extremely easy way to make delicious pulled pork using a can of Dr. Pepper. Another of my favorites! It's so simple.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. paprika
- 2 Tbsp. garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. ground black pepper
- 4–4 1/2 lbs. pork shoulder
- 2 yellow onions, chopped
- 1 (12-oz.) can of Dr. Pepper
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
Directions:
- Combine paprika, garlic powder, salt, cinnamon, and pepper in a bowl and mix together.
- Rub the outside of the pork shoulder with the dry ingredients.
- Place the yellow onions in a slow cooker and place the pork shoulder on top of the onions.
- Pour the Dr. Pepper over the pork and onions.
- Cook on low heat for 7 hours.
- Slice or shred the pork and let it finish cooking in its juices for an additional 30 minutes.
- Add barbecue sauce and stir.
- Serve on a bun.
In the video below, you’ll see that they place the ingredients in a pan, but we recommend the slow cooker, for a more tender, flavorful pulled pork. Watch the video to see this delicious dish being made!
