Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress Will Be Publicly Displayed, Princes William & Harry Decide

Prince William and Prince Harry may not agree on much these days, but they seem to be able to come together when it comes to their mother's legacy.

William and Harry are still due to get together this summer to unveil a statue of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in celebration of what would have been the Princess of Wales' 60th birthday. That isn't the only special Diana event in London this summer, however.

On April 26, Historic Royal Palaces curators announced that William and Harry have agreed to loan out Princess Diana's iconic wedding dress to be put on display. Kensington Palace visitors will be able to see the historic garment starting in June.

Royal fashion fans have a big reason to flock to London this summer. Historic Royal Palaces, the organization that manages a number of royal properties, has announced a new display for June 2021.

Prince William and Prince Harry have agreed to loan out Princess Diana's unforgettable wedding dress to be displayed for guests of Kensington Palace this summer. The famous gown became the talk of the world when Diana wore it on her July 29, 1981, wedding to Prince Charles.

The dress will be part of a larger exhibit, the charity explained.

"In the palace's newly-restored Orangery we'll be displaying never-before-seen items from the archives of some of the most celebrated royal couturiers of the 20th century, alongside stunning gowns and tailoring created for three generations of royal women," the post announcing the exhibit explains.

It's set to open on June 3.

There will be some other really significant historical pieces for fashion fans to check out as well, like a surviving toile for the Queen Mother's 1937 coronation gown.

"Our summer exhibition at Kensington Palace will shine a spotlight on some of the greatest talents of British design, whose work has been instrumental in shaping the visual identity of the royal family across the twentieth century," said exhibition curator Matthew Storey in a statement obtained by People.

"We'll be exploring how the partnership between each designer and client worked, and revealing the process behind the creation of a number of the most important couture commissions in royal history," the statement continued.

"While one of the highlights will undoubtedly be Diana, Princess of Wales's show-stopping Emanuel designed wedding dress, which goes on show at the palace for the first time in 25 years — we've got some real surprises up our sleeve for fashion fans!"

The dress, designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, was a once-in-a-lifetime project for the two designers.

"It will be like seeing an old friend after all these years," Elizabeth told People.

"I was looking at the images again today and I can't believe how many sequins we sewed onto the dress. This is going to be a wonderful exhibition."

The summer will also see other celebrations of Princess Diana. In July, William and Harry will come together to unveil a statue of Princess Diana on Kensington Palace grounds. The unveiling comes on what would have been Diana's 60th birthday, on July 1.
