Upcycling is one of my favorite methods for adding fun, new DIY elements to my home.
While the DIY possibilities for upcycling old items lying around the house may seem endless, I am particularly drawn to those that involve woodworking. Transforming an old piece of wood into a stunning rustic home addition can be incredibly impressive, like with this gorgeous chess table crafted from a slab of cedar.
And when I spotted this amazing DIY-er who upcycled a useless piece of walnut into a beautiful dining room table, I had to take a closer look.
I found this project on Reddit from user bobh20s. This brilliant DIY-er was able to create a wonderful addition to his home with a piece of forgotten wood and a whole lot of imagination.
Scroll through below to see just how easily he was able to craft this incredible walnut dining room table.

This clever DIY-er started his project with a raw piece of unfinished walnut. He writes on Imgur that the wood had "pretty rough saw lines on it, but it was very flat and the perfect size for a dining table."
One reason he was particularly drawn to the wood was that it contained a unique defect, as a result of a raccoon hole in the tree.
While some might see this defect as a negative, this DIY-er knew that it would add character to the finished product. He cleaned the hole thoroughly, making sure that there were no loose pieces or splinters.
He then filled the raccoon hole with epoxy. He writes, "I poured the epoxy in three different pours to try and prevent bubbles."
This DIY-er sanded down the surface using "a coat of mineral oil," which helped to bring out the details of the grain.
He also sanded down the top layer of the epoxy so that it was completely level with the rest of the table.
This DIY-er chose the perfect metal frame to serve as the base of his dining room table.
He drilled holes through the bottom of the table, attaching the wood to the frame with mounting bolts and rubber washers.
The finishing touch was a beautiful coat of semi-gloss urethane so that his table would truly shine.
He was quite glad that he chose this unique piece of walnut. He writes of the raccoon hole, "It is definitely a conversation piece on the table, and I am really glad that I approached it this way. It really adds some character and uniqueness to the piece."
This one-of-a-kind walnut slab table is the perfect rustic upcycle addition to any dining room!
