I absolutely love optical illusions and any puzzle images that test your brain and your eyes.
I especially enjoy the types of illusions where there are two totally distinct images. It's always interesting to find out whether you're in the majority who see one image, or the minority who spot the more "hidden" one.
There's a new optical illusion taking the internet by storm, and it's a surprisingly simple one.
The "coffer illusion" is a simple picture with black, white, and gray lines. At first glance, you can easily see the "coffers" (decorative sunken panels) that appear to be somewhat three-dimensional. But what many people don't realize is that there are actually circles in the image as well, hidden in plain sight!
The first time I looked at this image, I was stumped for about 15 minutes. I craned my head back and forth but couldn't for the life of me see those circles.

If you're like me, your eyes go straight to the apparent "boxes," with different shades of rectangles stacked on top of one another.
The rectangles are arranged into even rows (four total) and are easily visible. But I've outlined one here in the off-chance you're one of the fewer people who see the circles first and not the rectangles.

Horizontal lines make up all of the rectangles' centers. But the vertical lines between the rectangles form circles!
This illusion first came to prominence when it was shared by Relatively Interesting on July 28, 2017.
It quickly reached the Reddit top page as stumped readers kept upvoting it. The illusion currently has almost 43,000 upvotes!
This visual puzzle is actually rather old. According to Illusion of the Year, the coffer illusion was created by Anthony Norcia of the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in 2006.
It was a Top 10 finalist in the Best Illusion of the Year Contest that year.
