It's practically summertime, and pools are about to be opening up. For some people, that's bound to be more exciting than others, like those who get to go to the world's first "floating pool." Because, yes! That's a thing.
An incredible pool that is suspended 115 feet in the air just opened in London. It's being called the "sky pool," and it looks downright incredible. The pool is 82 feet long and stretches between two buildings. It links the roofs of the Embassy Gardens, a residential and business complex in London's Nine Elms neighborhood.
While the pool looks amazing from the outside, the builders say that swimming in it will be an experience like no other. They say that because of the glass bottom, it will actually feel like you're flying.
Structural engineer Eckersley O'Callaghan says the experience will be truly one of a kind. In a statement, he said, "At 110 feet up in the sky, once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying."
It's been a long time coming, too. The planning for adding a pool to the complex actually began back in 2013. But it was eventually determined that the only way to give the pool enough room was to make it a sky pool.
The pool is truly an incredible sight to see. Of course, for some, swimming in it is a bit too scary. For anyone who has an issue with heights, it will probably not be a relaxing place to take a swim.
While it definitely may not be for everyone, the designers say the pool is very safe. It was put through extensive strength testing at the Reynolds Polymer factory in Colorado.
The pool is 10 feet deep, and the water alone reportedly weighs around 375 tonnes (about 413 US tons).
It will certainly be a very cool and exclusive experience for Londoners to enjoy. There are 2,000 very high-end homes in Embassy Gardens. Hopefully, the residents enjoy swimming and a good thrill.
