Harry And Meghan Considered The Sentimental Name They Gave Their Little Girl Years Ago

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dreaming about their perfect family for a long time.

Harry and Meghan recently became parents of two. The couple announced the birth of their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 6. The baby girl was born on June 4 at 7 lbs., 11 oz.

Many royal fans were stunned that the couple went for such a sentimental moniker for their little girl. Archie's name is also full of meaning, but meaning that was more about the couple than the royal family. The name choice says a lot about where Harry and Meghan stand with the royals, but it's also not a new idea. Harry coyly hinted the name intrigued him some years ago, when Meghan was pregnant with Archie.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter on Sunday.

"It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world," their statement read.

"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA," the statement continued.

"She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."

The couple also issued a statement on the website for their organization, Archewell.

"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," they wrote.

"She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Lili has a beautifully sentimental name, but it's one that Harry and Meghan have had in mind for a while, at least in part. In 2019, the couple fielded name suggestions during a visit to Birkenhead, when Meghan was pregnant with Archie. They met a little girl named Lily, and Harry asked her mom how she spelled the name.

Harry has spoken out about how important he feels it is for Archie to feel connected to all the different members of his family, as it's sure to be for Lili. In The Me You Can't See, he spoke about how he keeps Diana a part of Archie's life.

"I got a photo of her in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said — apart from 'mama,' 'papa,' it was then 'grandma.' Grandma Diana," he shared.

"It's the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here," he continued.

"I wish she could've met Meghan. I wish she was around for Archie."

The royal family shared their well-wishes on the arrival of Lilibet. "Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana!" they shared in a statement.

"The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news. Lilibet is Her Majesty's 11th great-grandchild."
