The Duggar family aren't strangers to doing things that are unpopular with the general population. Jill Dillard may be putting distance between herself and her family these days, but she's still got some of that Duggar individuality in her.
Case in point: Jill's recent Instagram post. There's a photo of Jill and husband Derick Dillard's rescue dog, Fenna, licking something out of a bowl. Jill goes on to explain that she let her dog try some of her leftover frozen breast milk.
People weren't sure that was the best idea for the rescue dog, whom the Dillards adopted back in February. Jill made sure to let fans know the dog is perfectly safe and everything is fine.
Jill Dillard loves to share peeks at her family's life, on her own terms. The 30-year-old mom of two recently shared a post about the family's pet, their rescue dog Fenna. They welcomed Fenna into the family in February.
They shared the story behind the pup's name in a video on their YouTube channel.
"Her name is Fenna. We named her in the parking lot," Jill said.
"We'll always remember where we were when we picked out her name. We were eating Domino's in the PetSmart parking lot looking up Dutch girl names. And Fenna is a pretty name, we both liked it."
In the recent post, Fenna is licking something out of one of her bowls. Jill explained in the caption.
" I've had my last teeny bottle of breast milk in the freezer for nearly a couple years now (both my boys stopped breastfeeding around 2 years old and Sam is almost 4 now!). I know I know…it's probably a freezer-burnt nutrition-less substance now…," Jill wrote.
" Well, Sam randomly asked to try it recently and it didn't look or smell bad when I thawed it out so i let him try it. As expected, he didn’t like it after trying a couple sips," she continued.
"Needless to say, now all 3 of my children have now had breast milk ."
Jill also noted that using the last of her breast milk was an emotional experience:
" Anyone else feel sentimental about their 'liquid gold'? ♀️ Whoever coined the phrase, 'no use crying over spilled milk' certainly never pumped!"
Jill anticipated the negative feedback on her post. In truth, any member of her family probably anticipates it at this point, but Jill tackled it head on before anyone had a chance to pile on her.
"Also, before any of you jump on me for feeding it to the dog, she's fine. She's totally fine," she noted.
"I wouldn't have given it to her if i thought it would make her sick. So just chill mkay?!✌ ."
Jill is one of the only members of her family who has continued to stay active on social media in the wake of brother Josh Duggar's arrest. Jill has been estranged from the family since long before that, after it was revealed that she wasn't paid for her time on 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On.
Jill recently celebrated her 30th birthday with few wishes from her family but the adoration of husband Derick.
"Happy 30th birthday to my beautiful bride, @jillmdillard ✨ ," he wrote in an Instagram post dedicated to her.
"These past 7 years have been extremely trying, but navigating life with my best friend has not only made it more bearable but also exciting and adventurous. Your Christ-like attitude continues to inspire and challenge me to be more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. You are an amazing wife and mother. Thank you for who you are and all the sacrifices you constantly make for our family! I love you, and I know our boys love you too! ❤️."
