Marshall Mathers, best known as Eminem, has always had a turbulent relationship with his ex-wife, Kim Scott. The two have been part of each other's lives for years — and have a grown daughter, Hailie, together, plus two other children they helped raise. They actually met for the first time back in 1988 and had a rocky relationship in the public eye. But even though they're not currently with each other, it seemed as if Eminem was trying to make amends, for the sake of their children.
TMZ reported that in late July 2021, authorities were called on Kim after she threatened to harm herself. When the police arrived, she reportedly was "combative with law enforcement" and had to be restrained.
When the police arrived at her Michigan home, they saw that she had cuts on her legs and there was blood on the floor. Kim was described as being in a very fragile state of mind.
Kim and Marshall first met at a youth home when they were both young teenagers. Soon after meeting, Kim moved in with Marshall and his mother, Debbie Nelson. Debbie seemed fine with the arrangement at first, but she didn't get along with Kim well as time went on. And part of that was because Kim was a lot younger than Debbie initially thought.
Kim and Marshall had daughter Hailie in 1995, and living was rough before Marshall got discovered. The two were on-again, off-again before deciding to get married. But the marriage didn't mean that things were smooth sailing for the couple. When Marshall's career as Eminem was gaining success, his relationship with Kim crumbled. Before, they seemed to have only each other — and now Eminem was in high demand.
2000 was a rough year for Kim's mental health and marked the first time it was made public that she had tried to take her own life. At the time, Kim was 25 and living in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The event happened shortly after a local Eminem concert, and many believe it was triggered by the aggressive lyrics describing her imagined death that Marshall had written, performed, and — seemingly — stood behind.
This latest attempt shows that many of Kim's demons haven't gone away, which is tragic. TMZ reports that Kim is currently back at home, but she did go to the hospital to have medical and psychological evaluations done. While it's impossible to figure out why Kim was in such a state, Page Six notes that Kim's mother recently died at the age of 65.
That's not the only death that Kim is mourning. Her sister, Dawn, also died early at the age of 41. Kim and Dawn were twins, meaning that they shared an extra-special relationship. Dawn's death was reportedly due to a heroin overdose.
Kim had yet another attempt on October 7, 2015. Luckily, it also ended with her survival. While under the influence, she purposefully rammed her Cadillac Escalade into a pole. She admits that she didn't expect to make it out alive. That attempt also came after a decade of sobriety.
"I sat at the end of a road, where I knew that no one else but myself would get hurt," she said on the Mojo in the Morning talk show, per Yahoo. "I drank, yes, I took pills, and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole." Later on, she admitted that she realized it was all a mistake.
"I am really, truly, deeply sorry for my actions that day," she said during her court appearance. "They were selfish. They were destructive. I didn't take into consideration anybody else's safety and the feelings of my family, and I am truly sorry." Hopefully, Kim is feeling similarly today.
Kim has been through a lot in her life, and she's in a position that many others don't understand. Regardless of what her relationship with Eminem may be like currently, it's difficult to have your name thrown into lyrics that might cause fans to judge you or think they know you. It's even worse if the fans cheer for you to fail. It's all yet another reminder that taking care of your mental health is important.
Dealing with grief is also quite difficult. If Kim's mom happened to be her rock and her support throughout these past years, it can be hard for Kim to know how to move forward. Hopefully, Kim gets all of the help she needs with moving forward and gaining healthier skills in order to cope. She has a lot of people rooting for her.
She's dealt with a lot of loss in her life, and it can be a lot to comprehend. But she'll hopefully find the strength to get through, especially since she has children who love her so much. Hopefully, things will be brighter from here on out.
