One of the stars of the hit reality show Selling Sunset is going through an unimaginable tragedy. Maya Vander has suffered a devastating stillbirth at 38 weeks gestation.
The 39-year-old real estate agent revealed what had just taken place on Instagram on Friday. “Yesterday was the hardest day of my life,” she wrote. She also shared an image of a picture of a pile of baby clothes in a memory box. “I always heard of it but never imagined I’ll be part of the statistics.”
Maya was expecting her third child.
Maya also shared that she wouldn't wish such a horrible tragedy on "anyone." Her post continued, “What was a regular weekly checkup turned into a nightmare that I never imagine will happen to me,” she said. “Given I share my pregnancies in the show I knew I’ll have to post about this and avoid the ‘when is your due date’ question. You will always be in our heart baby Mason .”
Maya had been sharing tons of updates on Instagram throughout those 38 weeks of pregnancy. In photos, her bump was often on display. She was clearly overjoyed and couldn't wait to grow her family.
Last month, she shared some stunning images of her embracing the last weeks of pregnancy. She wrote, "The last few months have FLOWN by… between work, kids, & filming. ✈️ Can’t believe 2022 is almost here & so is baby number 3!!
"As the holidays are approaching & schedules start to get even busier, don’t forget to take it all in and remember all the things you are grateful for. What are some things you are grateful for this year? ."
On October 28, she even shared images from her baby shower, which her Selling Sunset castmates had thrown in her honor. "Feeling so grateful to have been showered in love yesterday by my Selling Sunset ladies ✨ (and @jasonoppenheim & @brettoppenheim)," she wrote. "Thankful for this amazing chapter of life! Baby #3 coming soon ."
Maya has often talked about her pregnancies on Selling Sunset, so it's likely that we will see her address her loss on the show. In an episode of the show last season, she announced her pregnancy to her castmates. She also shared the news on social media, writing, “Here we go again. Baby No. 3 will be our Christmas/Chanukah present! .”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stillbirth is a relatively rare event. Still, it affects about 1 in 160 babies and their families. That's 24,000 babies a year who are stillborn.
