Anderson Cooper's dad vibes were on total display during a recent interview.
During a conversation with a Ukrainian mom, the woman's three children stole the spotlight. Anderson talked to the mom, who said the four of them had been hiding out in a basement in Kyiv with no windows.
As mom Olena Gnes spoke with the anchor about the severity of the situation and how terrifying it all truly is, her kids were full of silliness.
Gnes opened up about what it's like to be living in the middle of a war zone. She talked about the constant fear and anxiety of the situation. She also revealed how tough it is to be in a basement with kids all day, something Anderson, as a dad himself, seemed to understand.
But while Anderson spoke to the overwhelmed mother, his attention was drawn to something else. The little girl, 7, was fully of silliness. She kept growling at the camera and making faces. Soon, her younger brother got in on the antics.
Anderson appeared so smitten with the kids. He chuckled and welcomed their adorable playfulness. He even growled back at the siblings. "Ooh, they’re scary," he told their mom. "They’re scary tigers. They’re fierce."
Their mother appeared incredibly patient as the kids pulled the attention from the serious topics of the interview. “They are full of energy and they don’t know where to give this energy,” she said. “They keep asking all the time about (Russian President Vladimir) Putin. Why is he such a bad person? Why is he destroying Ukraine? Why is he killing people? And when daddy will come back home? And when we will come back home?”
It was really a sweet moment that showed that regardless of being in the middle of a war, kids still want to be kids. Understanding that, Anderson responded in the most perfect way. Having someone to laugh along with her kids likely gave the terrified mom a much-needed moment of levity.
