The Easter bunny is a centuries-old tradition that supposed to be all fun and joy. No one is quite sure where exactly the tradition came from, however. Some say that rabbits are a pagan symbol of new life but truly, the history is a bit muddled. The fact that no one really knows what the Easter bunny exists makes it … maybe a little creepier?
The Easter bunny brings candy and gives hugs — that's basically all it is supposed to do, right? But as it turns out, a lot of kids don't actually find an adult in a giant bunny suit to be fun at all. In fact, many kids over the years have found the Easter bunny to be utterly terrifying, judging from these photos, it's not that hard to see why.
Here are 7 times kids would've rather eaten raw eggs than sat on a creepy bunny-human's lap.
1. This Horror Movie Bunny
If this bunny isn't supposed to be downright terrifying, we're not sure what is. Granted, there were a lot of things about the '80s that were scary. But as far as the child on the right in concerned, this Easter moment takes the cake.
2. The White Rabbit From Your Nightmares
This vintage photo is chilling, no matter what the year! Seriously, this Easter bunny belongs in your nightmares and nowhere else. Definitely not around any real-life children. The child seated on the creepy bunny's lap looks pretty irked, but it's amazing these kids didn't run for their lives.
3. This Not-Friendly-Enough Bunny
The Easter bunny came to this child's school, but ya know what? The kid would've rather been eating paste. This bunny looks friendly, but not quite friendly enough for the terrified lap-sitter. Truly, we get it, kid.
4. A Bunny Not Suitable For Babies
There seem to be a lot of creepy Easter bunnies wandering around, but this one is so creepy, even this baby knows something is not right. The kid looks too scared to move a muscle, let alone cry out, and we do not blame him one little bit.
5. This Easter Ruiner
This little girl is desperately trying to escape the Easter bunny's grasp to no avail. Clearly, no one told him about consent. Let her go, bunny! You have literally just ruined Easter for her for life.
6. This Scared Sister
There is always one sibling whose anxiety runs higher than the other's. In this case, it's pretty astounding that either of these children are smiling. This bunny looks more like he's been hiding in your bushes for weeks with a concealed weapon rather than waiting for Easter.
7. The Bunny Who Tried
There is nothing too terrifying about this bunny, but the kids still got it right. Easter bunnies are scary, no matter how soft, fuzzy, or mild they appear. Someone let the kids go. No one is having fun here.
