Tom Cruise Chooses Not To See Daughter Suri Even Though He Can, According To Reports

People have been fascinated by Tom Cruise's relationship with Katie Holmes for years. From the time he first jumped up and down on Oprah's couch, gushing with excitement about his soon-to-be wife, fans were enthralled.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the relationship soured within a few years, with the two splitting in 2012 after six years of marriage and the birth of daughter Suri. Many believe that Scientology (Tom's religion) played a part in the breakup, but neither party has spoken openly about it.

Now it seems that Scientology could also be playing a part in Tom's reportedly strained relationship with Suri. Sources believe guidance from religious leaders may be why Tom is estranged from his daughter.

A source told Us Weekly that the actor has visitation rights and can see his daughter up to 10 days a month but actually chooses not to. Us Weekly also pointed out that Tom and Suri haven't been photographed together publicly since 2013.

"Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to," the source said, also noting that Suri's custody is outlined in the Mission: Impossible star's divorce agreement with Katie. "He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist."

Noted Scientology critic and former The Village Voice editor-in-chief Tony Ortega separately told the magazine that Katie likely signed "some nondisclosure agreement saying she wouldn't say anything bad about Scientology" so she could keep primary custody of Suri.

"She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri," he explained. He also theorized that Katie was likely told not to associate with former friend Leah Remini, who used to be a Scientologist and is now one of its most vocal critics.

Tom's representatives did not return Us Weekly's request for comment. If this report is accurate, it's very sad that Suri no longer has much of a relationship with her dad. But by all accounts, she enjoys quite a happy life with her mom.
